Live From the Court: CourTex Installs CoolTop on a Lake Travis Multi-Game Court

CourTex Construction recently welcomed the Coatings Coffee Shop team to one of our Lake Travis jobsites for a three-day, behind-the-scenes look at the construction and surfacing of a new multi-game court.

Designed for both pickleball and basketball, the court gave us the perfect opportunity to showcase the craftsmanship, planning, and attention to detail that go into building a high-performance athletic surface from the ground up.

Introducing CoolTop from California Sports Surfaces

One of the highlights of this project was the application of CoolTop®, an advanced acrylic court coating developed by California Sports Surfaces.

CoolTop uses solar-reflective technology to help the court retain less heat than traditional acrylic coatings. CoolTop offers solar-reflective ratings 20–30% higher than standard court coatings, varying based on court color, location, and site conditions.

For an outdoor multi-game court exposed to the Texas sun, CoolTop offers an exciting combination of player comfort, consistent performance, and long-term durability.

Three Days Behind the Scenes

Throughout the three-day installation, Coatings Coffee Shop documented the process and specialized work involved in athletic court construction.

The project covered important stages of the surfacing process, including:

  • Preparing the court for the acrylic system
  • Applying the CoolTop color coats
  • Laying out pickleball and basketball lines
  • Completing detailed touch-ups
  • Inspecting the finished playing surface
  • Allowing the coating system to cure properly

Every stage affects the court’s texture, traction, appearance, playability, and long-term performance. It was a great opportunity to show why professional installation and a strong relationship between the contractor and product manufacturer matter.

Live Interview With Weston

During the visit, CourTex's CEO Weston Ready joined Coatings Coffee Shop for a live CoatingsTalk interview.

The conversation explored CourTex’s experience in the growing athletic surfacing industry, the unique demands of court coatings, common installation mistakes, and the details that separate a court that simply looks good from one that is built to perform.

The interview also provides an up-close look at the Lake Travis project and the expertise required to create a durable, versatile playing surface.

A Court Designed for More Ways to Play

By incorporating both pickleball and basketball markings, this new Lake Travis court gives the property owner multiple ways to use the same space. The CoolTop finish completes the project with a clean, high-performance surface designed for outdoor play.

We greatly appreciate Coatings Coffee Shop and California Sports Surfaces joining us in the field and helping share what goes into professional court construction. More videos from their visit will be released soon, and we look forward to sharing them on our website.
